KADIKÖY MARITIME MUSEUM

Kadıköy Maritime Museum is a conceptual architectural and landscape design project located along the waterfront of Kadıköy, İstanbul. Envisioned as a contemporary cultural landmark, the project explores the relationship between maritime heritage, modern architecture, and public waterfront spaces, creating an environment where the city, its people, and the sea come together.

The architectural concept is defined by a striking, expansive roof structure inspired by the fluidity and movement of the sea. Its angular geometry and extended cantilevers establish a distinctive horizontal silhouette, while the contrasting composition of light-colored roof cladding, natural stone façades, and slender glazed openings creates a refined contemporary identity. Inclined structural columns introduce a dynamic architectural expression, emphasizing the building's connection to maritime forms and engineering.

A defining feature of the design is the integration of large glazed roof openings, allowing natural daylight to penetrate the covered spaces beneath the expansive canopy. The warm-toned ceiling surfaces create a visual contrast with the building's exterior, while the sheltered transitional areas establish a connection between the museum and its surrounding public spaces.

The landscape design plays an essential role in the overall architectural concept. Generous pedestrian promenades, interconnected pathways, landscaped green spaces, and carefully positioned seating areas extend the museum experience beyond the building itself. Geometric paving patterns and planted islands create a continuous landscape language, guiding visitors through the site while offering opportunities for gathering, relaxation, and interaction with the waterfront.

The waterfront is designed as an accessible public destination, incorporating viewing terraces, pedestrian routes, and connections to the existing maritime environment. The relationship between the museum, coastline, and surrounding vessels reinforces the project's maritime identity, transforming the site into a setting where cultural activities and everyday public life can coexist.

Kadıköy Maritime Museum brings together contemporary architecture, maritime culture, and landscape design through a unified approach. More than a museum, the project is envisioned as a waterfront gathering place that strengthens the relationship between İstanbul's urban life and its maritime heritage, creating a distinctive cultural destination along the city's coastline.
